A gift to grieving families

Mater Mothers’ Hospitals bereavement team were the grateful recipients of two ‘cuddle cots’ from Bears of Hope Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support and Sydney2CAMberra.

A cuddle cot is a specially designed crib with an inbuilt cooling system, allowing a family whose baby has died to spend a little bit more time with them.

Sydney 2 CAMberra’s Founder Lee Heslehurst said it was an absolute honour to donate the cot to Mater Mothers’ on behalf of his community in the name of Cameron Robert Belfield.

“This donation will enable families to spend precious time with their babies who are perfect in every way, they are just not breathing,” Lee said.

“Alongside Nicole and Nik Biskap, It was a special night for the three of us to provide such a tangible gift for families during a very tough time and something our community is proud of,” he said.

Mater Mothers’ Hospitals Bereavement Coordinator Belinda Norman is grateful for the generous gifts.

“It really is an honour to receive these cots,” Belinda said.

“As Australia’s largest maternity hospital with more than 10 000 babies born every year, the sad fact is that 150 babies are lost each year as well.

“This donation is very much needed and appreciated,” she said.

The concept for the Sydney 2 CAMberra Charity Ride was created after a young Sydney couple lost their son Cameron through stillbirth. The tragic event heavily impacted their life and touched many of their family members and friends.  Visit www.sydney2camberra.com for more information.
