Baby Edward is dad’s surprise Father’s Day gift

A Redlands father says the arrival of his newborn son Edward will make Father’s Day “extra special” this year.

Shane Calderbank, 35 and wife Natasha, 32, welcomed their second child at Mater Mothers' Private Redland on Wednesday, weighing 2.62 kg.

Shane, a music teacher at John Paul College, said he was looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day as a family of four.

Big sister Harper, 3, has been showering baby Eddie with lots of kisses and cuddles, he said.

Shane, of Alexandra Hills, said his son’s gender was a surprise to the couple.

“Tash and I had no idea what we were having,” he said.

“It’s so special we have a pigeon pair now. I had to go out this morning and buy lots of blue clothes.”

Shane said Eddie was a happy and healthy baby and looked forward to teaching him music and a variety of sports.

Mater Private Hospital Redland Nurse Unit Manager Ellie Grieve said Edward’s arrival was a great gift for proud dad Shane this Father’s Day.

“No doubt the family is eagerly awaiting mum and bub’s homecoming in time for a weekend of celebrations,” Ellie said.
