Wave of Light brings hope

Wave of Light brings hope

On Monday evening Mater Mothers’ Hospitals recognised International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day with its annual Wave of Light service hosted by the Bereavement Team.

More than 120 precious parents, grandparents and family members braved the rain to attend this significant event to honour the short lives of their precious babies. Parents lit candles, shared readings and poems to acknowledge the grief and trauma of losing their baby.

Hope was the theme of the evening, woven through songs and words.

Perinatal Loss Coordinator Belinda Norman acknowledged how fortunate we are to be able to talk more openly about the loss of a baby than years gone by.

“An event like this gives the whole family the opportunity to reflect on a short life and acknowledges the ‘what could have been’ thoughts.

“Recognising the grief and knowing that each journey is different goes a long way to healing,” Belinda said.

If any Mater Mothers would like ongoing support for their loss please contact the Bereavement Service on 3163 3467.
