Let’s get real: PANDA Week
Thursday 14 November 2019
Becoming a new mum and dad is both exciting and tough at times. Anxiety and depression during pregnancy and after birth is very common and can affect anyone. Up to one in five expecting or new mothers and one in twenty expecting or new fathers will experience perinatal anxiety or depression. Although these emotional challenges are very common, often they are not spoken about.
The theme of this year’s Perinatal Anxiety and Depression (PANDA) Week campaign is ‘Let’s get real’, because there’s a lot of baggage around mental health, and the mental health of expecting and new parents is no exception. As a community, we need to get real about perinatal anxiety and depression.
If you have concerns about your thoughts, feelings or behaviours we encourage you to seek help. Seeking help early leads to a faster recovery with less impact on you and on your relationship with your baby, partner and family.
People you can talk to include your GP, obstetrician, midwife, child health clinic or Mater Mothers’ Parenting Support Centre. You can make a booking to attend Mater Mothers’ Parenting Support Centre, by calling 07 3163 2229.
