Best friends welcome daughters 11 minutes apart

Earlier this week the hallway of Mater Mothers’ Hospitals birth suite was buzzing with excitement as best mates, and now Proud Mater Dads, Tom and Ed high-fived each other while their partners were in labour at the same time!

Tom and Ed’s partners, Chantelle and Brooke, have also been friends for more than 10 years and to be in labour at the same time was an exciting surprise.

“We knew it was going to be close,” Tom said. “Our due dates were only a day apart, but we didn’t really think it would happen at the same time.”

Tom and Chantelle welcomed their daughter Penelope at 3.37 pm, meanwhile Ed and Brooke welcomed their own little girl Olivia, just 11 minutes later at 3.48 pm.

Just like their mums we think these little girls are going to be best friends.

“Brooke and Chantelle have been best friends for more than a decade and we have no doubt Olivia and Penelope will also share a close bond,” Ed added.

Tom and Ed have already had early morning coffee dates in hospital, compared stories and photos and are glad to have a close friend to talk to while they navigate being first name dads.

Penelope and Olivia were two of the 36 babies born on Wednesday 20 November at Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.
