Double Mother’s Day celebrations for Mater mum and daughter

Every day at Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton, we celebrate the role we’re privileged to play in the care of so many Central Queensland families. In the lead up to this Mother’s Day we’re celebrating all the amazing mums, and in particular a dedicated mother and daughter who we are fortunate to have as Mater People.

Mum Jeanette is a midwife, whilst her daughter Amy is a registered nurse. This year Jeanette will mark 36 years as a midwife at Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton, whilst Amy has worked in paediatrics and surgical for 15 years. With such a long tenure at the hospital, the wonderful mother and daughter team have many stories to share about their experiences and highlights, however they both suggest that the roles they play are a “special privilege”.

As a midwife, Jeanette recalls many happy and sad times, however believes the periods most memorable to her include being a small part of the large diversity of the Mater Mothers’ team.

Following in her mother’s footsteps at, Amy completed her nursing studies whilst working at in aged care from 2003 to 2005, before starting at Mater in 2006. Amy—also a mum herself—has a young son Jack (now a very busy happy 2-year-old), who no doubt will shower her with love and affection on Sunday.

To these very special women, who for a combined 51 years have provided quality compassionate healthcare to the people of Central Queensland, we say a very happy Mother’s Day.
