A mini holiday for the Ryan Family

A mini holiday for the Ryan Family

“It was a great experience, and being home it feels like we’ve had just come back from a holiday not a hospital!”

After welcoming their second child at Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane, Mark and Tracey opted to take up our newest Caring Continues option which allows eligible* families to spend a luxurious two night stay at the nearby Emporium Hotel South Bank following the birth of their baby.

Eligible mums who are well enough to be discharged on day two (or day three for a caesarean) can relax and bond with their newborn in luxurious surroundings with the comfort of knowing a Mater midwife is available onsite 24/7 to help with things like breastfeeding, sleeping and settling.

“It was a lovely time in the hotel room but knowing the midwife was there around the clock gave us the reassurance to know we still had care from Mater,” Mark said.

“The midwife came and introduced herself shortly after we arrived and we did have a few questions about bathing our new little girl, Saibhe, so it was really nice to have that time with her.”

Mark and Tracey were originally  worried their two year old son Comhghan wouldn’t be able to visit his new baby sister in hospital, but staying at the Emporium Hotel South Bank meant they were able be together as a family.

“Comhghan was able to see his little sister which was brilliant and we were able to have a family night which went really well—he loved it, we all loved it,” Mark said.

“He took advantage of the spacious room, running around, playing with everything and he especially enjoyed looking out at the boats along the Brisbane River.”

From a dad’s point of view, Mark found the experience extra comfortable and effortless.

“It was awesome. Even from the pick-up in the nice car—we just weren’t expecting it. We had heard that the option was available and we did base our decision to go on Comhghan being allowed to visit but it ended up being so much more than that,” Mark said.

We were really looked after, the staff were brilliant, the bed was so comfortable, and food was brought up and taken away. It really felt like a mini holiday.

“Being away from home and being able to have time to ourselves and one-on-one time with the baby, it was perfect.”

Mark and Tracey are both so grateful of the opportunity and already have encouraged their friends to consider going.

“We 100% would recommend going to other families. We have already told our friends about our experience and if we were to have another baby would definitely be going back!” Mark said.
