This video (above) is helpful for new parents who aren’t sure how to handle their new bub as Mater physiotherapist Sheridan Guyatt shares the 'dos' and 'don’ts' of how to pick up, hold and play with your baby.

Sheridan has more than 20 years’ experience in musculoskeletal and women’s health physiotherapy. She passionately promotes health and wellness during pregnancy, postnatally and beyond through treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and back and pelvic girdle pain to optimise postnatal recovery. 

Health and wellness during pregnancy

In the video above, Mater physiotherapist Sheridan Guyatt talks about physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy and how to do gentle exercises to improve your posture and pelvic floor muscles.

Mater Dietitian Dr Shelly Wilkinson talks about nutrition for pregnancy and breastfeeding—including tips on which essential vitamin and mineral supplements to consider during pregnancy. Shelly also talks about healthy weight gain and eating well to produce quality breastmilk.

Dr Shelly Wilkinson has a PhD in Health Psychology and 20 years’ experience as a dietitian. She specialises in women's health, including pre and postnatal nutrition. She develops and runs programs blending dietetics and psychology—supporting women and their families to live healthier lifestyles through nutrition.

In this video (above) Mater midwife and lactation consultant Alex Read shares the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child. Learn the benefits of skin-to-skin contact and how it helps mother and baby form a special bond.

Mater midwife and lactation consultant Alex Read is also a Registered Nurse and Midwife, Child and Family Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant. Alex has many years’ experience assisting mothers and babies, both preterm and fullterm, to overcome breastfeeding difficulties and achieve the best possible outcomes.
