Mater Little Miracles 5ks is on again! The family fun walk or run brings the community together to support Mater’s smallest patients—Mater Little Miracles.

Sign up now for our 5ks events in Brisbane (South Bank), Redlands (Capalaba Regional Park) or one of our regional events in Gladstone or Moranbah.

There’ll be fun activities for the kids and at some of our events your little ones will even be able to meet Nick Jr.’s Dora the Explorer and Mater’s very own Miracle Max.

By supporting Mater Little Miracles 5ks your family will help Mater Mothers’ Hospital provide specialist life-saving care to seriously ill and premature babies—these babies are affectionately known as Mater Little Miracles.

One such Mater Little Miracle is Eli Harris. Eli was born 14 weeks’ premature and he faced big challenges during his first few months of life including lung disease, a heart murmur, a brain bleed and an infection that was resistant to antibiotics.

Eli was rushed to Mater Mothers' Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) where he remained for 77 days. It was four days before his mother Hope was able to touch her son for the first time—but later that day, Eli stopped breathing.

"It was like my world went from colour to black and white; I'd been thinking everything was so rosy and Eli would be fine—but then I realised he could leave us at any time and that a massive journey lay ahead for him," said Hope.

When you support Mater Little Miracles, you are helping babies just like Eli. Through providing equipment, research and patient care, little miracles really do happen.

Hope praised the team at Mater Mothers' for their support and care during the family's stay in NCCU; "Every single one of the NCCU staff is second to none; they treat every baby like their own and it just blew me away that they could have so much love for each baby."
