Know our Mater Midwives Program

We are proud to offer a unique program for our privately and self-funded patients. This program gives women the best of combined obstetric and midwifery care within the private framework.

Pregnancy and birth is a unique experience for all women—what suits one person may be completely different for another. We recognise that not all journeys are the same. Which is why we have developed a unique program so that women can have choice.

The Know our Mater Midwives Program allows women to meet with Mater midwives during your pregnancy, so that you can form a relationship with the team of midwives who will be looking after you through the antenatal period and birth of your baby.

Appointments commence between 20 and 24 weeks, then again at 30 to 34 weeks. During these visits our midwifery team will cover:

  • aspects of birthing
  • tests and procedures that are relevant to your pregnancy journey
  • routine screening that is performed through your antenatal journey, including depression score, smoking cessation, alcohol and other drugs, and safe start
  • feeding your newborn—you will be given support through our breastfeeding clinics and our breastfeeding consultants
  • information and advice on immunisations that are recommended throughout pregnancy, and
  • common symptoms that you may experience through pregnancy.

This program is designed to enhance your pregnancy journey and promote a lasting relationship with our midwifery team.

Our midwives recognise the need to offer holistic care to mothers; working in collaboration with our team of dedicated obstetricians and paediatricians to enhance your experience.

If you are booked in to deliver your baby at Mater Mothers’ Private Townsville and would like to participate in this program, please discuss your options with your obstetrician. If you choose not to participate in this program you will still be seen by the midwives for your booking-in visit at 30 to 34 weeks.
