Where to go for admission
Admission during the day
For admission to Mater Mothers’ Private Redland during the day, go directly to the front entry of the hospital (Mater Private Hospital Redland). Please proceed to the lifts and head up to level 2, turning right toward the Mater Mothers’ Private Redland reception desk. If you need to park in the loading zone, you can do so for a period of five minutes and your support person can then park the car in a nominated car park.
If you are in established labour and too uncomfortable to move from the car, or you need assistance, please remain in the car and ask your support person to inform the staff at the front reception desk. They will contact the team at Mater Mothers’ Private Redland to provide immediate assistance.
After hours admissions
The automatic doors at the front entry to the hospital will be closed from 8 pm to 6 am (Monday to Friday) and 8 pm to 8 am (Saturday and Sunday). If you arrive after hours, please press the intercom button beside the entry doors and the staff will answer your call.
Emergency admissions
If you are concerned about your pregnancy, please call Mater Mothers’ Private Redland on 07 3163 7444, at any time of day, for advice from a midwife. Please phone ahead to advise us if you’re coming in to the hospital.
If you will need an interpreter, please ask for one to be booked when you make this call.
Accommodation
At Mater Mothers’ Private Redland, our rooms are designed to ensure your stay is comfortable. Each single room includes an ensuite bathroom, baby bathing facilities, phone, patient entertainment system, refrigerator and tea and coffee making facilities.
Your partner or support person is able to stay overnight on the day bed provided. Children are welcome to the hospital as visitors but are not permitted to stay overnight.
Rooming-in
Mater Mothers’ Private Redland practices rooming-in. This allows mothers and babies to remain together 24 hours a day. Rooming-in helps mothers bond with their babies and gain confidence in their care. Research shows that mothers actually get more sleep when rooming-in with their baby.
A mother who is rooming-in is able to attend to her baby when feeding cues are displayed, helping her establish a good milk flow by promoting milk let-down. This means you are less likely to have hard sore breasts, your milk supply will become established, and breastfeeding will get off to a good start. You also make antibodies from your own body and environment that you pass on to your baby through your breast milk. This means your baby is less at risk of infection in the first few days when they are in close contact with you.
MyMater Bedside
You can enjoy a range of entertainment options and access important patient information with MyMater Bedside. This touchscreen device provides you with access to TV, radio, streaming services and social media, as well as educational information about caring for you and your baby after birth.
Premium complimentary Wi-Fi on your own device
You will also have access to premium complimentary Wi-Fi on your own device. Simply refer to the Wi-Fi instruction card at your bedside take for information on how to connect during your stay.
Birth suite
The birthing rooms at Mater Mothers’ Private Redland provide a warm and home-like atmosphere for the birth of your baby. Each birthing room is self-contained, with a television, telephone, CD player with iPod adapter and aromatherapy burner.
Your midwife will help you achieve your individual birth plan, and make the most of pain relief options. Refreshments are provided for you and your support person. Meals and snacks for your support person can also be obtained from the café or vending machines on the ground floor of the hospital.
Support person and children
Your support person may accompany you into the birthing suite during labour and birth. If a child is to attend the birth, please prepare them for this special occasion—what they might expect to see, hear and experience. Also, arrange for someone other than your support person to look after your child during the birth or when, perhaps, the child may need to leave the room. Children are not permitted in the operating suite at the hospital.
Operating suite
If you have a caesarean birth with a spinal anaesthetic, we welcome one support person into the operating suite and will provide your support person with appropriate theatre clothing. If you need to have a caesarean with a general anaesthetic your support person will not be permitted in the operating suite. No additional visitors are allowed in the recovery room.
Chapel
There is a Chapel available at Mater Private Hospital Redland for all people to access for their own quiet time and reflection. Catholic Mass is celebrated at 9 am on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome at Mater Mothers’ Private Redland during visiting hours, 10 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm daily.
We recommend limiting the number of visitors to ensure you and your baby get time to rest. Please encourage your visitors to phone before they come so you can suggest a time convenient for you and your baby. Partners can visit at any time.
Visitors should only cuddle your baby with your permission and must wash their hands before doing so. For the health and safety of you and your baby, and other mothers and babies, please ask your family and friends not to visit if they have an infectious illness or have recently had contact with an infectious disease. Please ensure children are supervised at all times.
Rest period
We encourage mothers and their newborns to rest between the hours of 1 pm and 3 pm every day. During this time, there will be no visitors permitted to the wards except a partner or support person. Phone calls will be diverted to the midwife’s staff base and we recommend that mobile phones are switched off during this time. Staff will only provide details authorised by you. To help us maintain your privacy, please ask friends and relatives to contact your immediate family for information about your progress.
Rest is an important part of your recovery and we ask that you limit the number of visitors you have at any one time to allow yourself the peace and privacy you need. Your nursing staff may ask visitors to leave if they feel your visitors are tiring you. We hope you will understand this is necessary for your recovery.
Your safety
At Mater Mothers’ Private Redland we value your safety above all else.
Our Patient and Carer Escalation (PACE) program allows family members and/or carers to escalate any concerns they may have about a patient’s condition at any time, day or night. It is important to raise any concerns as early as possible.
For more information on how to raise any concerns, learn more about our PACE procedure.
Our performance
Whilst it is essential that Mater maintains quality safety and care, we also require all of our patients and visitors to take a conscientious role in supporting our efforts to retain this level of excellence by following all safety instructions. We also ask that you speak up and let us know immediately of any safety or care issues.
Giving informed consent
You will be asked to acknowledge your understanding of, and give your informed consent to, tests, therapies or other procedures required for the care of you and your baby. If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment or your consent, please speak to the doctors, midwives or nurses caring for you.
