Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane midwives provide a comprehensive preadmission service. This incorporates sharing of information, in relation to your general, medical and obstetric history and is a valuable aspect of preparing for your stay with us.

  • Check your level of private maternity cover with your private health insurer.
  • Choose a private obstetrician to manage your private maternity care.
  • Request a referral from your GP to see your chosen obstetrician.
  • Contact your private obstetrician to book in your initial consultation.

How to book-in to Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane

To book into Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane for the birth of your baby please use our Online Patient Portal to complete your patient registration form. You'll need to register for a Patient Portal account. You only need an email address and password. Once registered, you can complete your patient registration form to book in online. 

When booking into Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane to have your baby, you can choose your own obstetrician to manage your private maternity care.

Once your booking is processed by the hospital you will receive an information package in the mail confirming your maternity booking. Please ensure you read all this information carefully.

You will also receive a separate letter informing you of the date and time a midwife will contact you, by telephone, to discuss your health and pregnancy in preparation for the birth of your baby. 

If you have a hearing impairment or speak a language other than English, please arrange for someone to assist you during the appointment.

Private health insurance

We recommend that you talk with your private health insurer before you come to hospital, to ensure you are aware of your entitlements. Ask them whether you are covered for neonatal, special or intensive care, and if you are required to pay an excess or co-payment. Ensure that you have clear answers to these questions.

You may need to upgrade to family cover well before your expected date of delivery. All additional or other out-of-pocket expenses, such as telephone calls, are paid before going home.

Self-insured patients

If you are a self-insured patient (paying for your hospitalisation yourself) you will need to contact Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane to discuss costs and obtain a quote. Staff are available to discuss costs with you on telephone 07 3163 8847 between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm weekdays (excluding public holidays).

Cost estimates are based on the information available at the time and are subject to change if any aspect of your stay changes due to medical necessity (e.g. if complications arise).
