Your admission to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane

Where to go for admission

Admission during the day

For admission to Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane during the day, please present to the main entrance of the hospital. You will need to go through the security boom gate before you get to the hospital. For your convenience there is a set-down/pick-up area at the front of the building. Your support person can park the car here for a period of five minutes.

If you can walk, please go to the main reception on level 5 where you will be directed to the Pregnancy Assessment Centre. If you are in strong labour and too uncomfortable to move from the car or you need immediate assistance, please remain in the car and ask your support person to request urgent assistance at the hospital's main reception, located on level 5.

After hours admissions

After hours (between 8.30 pm and 6 am) the security boom gates are unattended but there is a video intercom to enable you to contact security, who will remotely operate the boom gate.

The front doors to the hospital will be electronically locked between 8.30 pm and 6 am. Please contact reception using the video intercom at the front door to gain entry into the hospital.

Warning Signs or Emergency admissions

If you experience or notice any of the following symptoms during your pregnancy, it is important to contact the hospital or your obstetrician immediately:

  • vaginal bleeding
  • your ‘waters’ break (rupture of membranes)
  • period like pain in your lower tummy that comes and goes regularly
  • any change in the colour or odour of vaginal discharge
  • abdominal cramps with or without diarrhoea
  • lower back ache
  • dizziness or blurred vision, particularly if accompanied by headache
  • decreased baby movements.

(Some of these symptoms often occur before any contractions start, and may not necessarily indicate premature labour however, we recommend that you have them checked).

If you are concerned about yourself or your baby at any stage of your pregnancy or it has been less than six weeks since your baby’s birth, please telephone Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane, on 07 3163 7000, to let us know of your impending arrival and a midwife will contact your obstetrician. You may also go directly to the Mater Mothers’ Pregnancy Assessment Centre on level 5, and a midwife will contact your obstetrician.

If you have a different health problem in early pregnancy please go directly to an Emergency Department, such as the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane Emergency Care Centre, 301 Vulture Street, South Brisbane.

If your baby needs medical attention, please go directly to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital is the public hospital for children in Brisbane and Queensland’s tertiary hospital for serious childhood injury and illness
