Antenatal education

Mater Mothers’ Hospital provides a range of education programs to help you prepare for pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with confidence. We offer a variety of classes and session times, with special sessions for fathers-to-be and grandparents. For your convenience programs are held on weekends and evenings.

Grandparent Classes

Are you a new grandparent or do you just need a grandparent refresher?

Why not come along and learn the best way to support the new parents by joining our grandparent classes led by an experienced midwife. Topics covered include skin to skin, breastfeeding, sleep routines and SIDS guidelines.

Held monthly on a Thursday morning at 9 am on Level 5 Mater Mothers’ Hospitals, South Brisbane. Please register your interest by calling 07 3163 8847.

Every Tuesday afternoon at Mater Mothers' Hospital a drop-in clinic is available to women looking for more information on post-birth recovery. Please contact Allied Health directly on 07 3163 6000 for more information.

TENS in labour

Supported by Mater's Health and Wellness Centre, the TENS in labour hire and information session is available for a fee. This session will teach you how to use the machine, helping to modify your pain perceptions in labour. The TENS in labour session is offered every Thursday at 1pm. Bookings are essential. Please call 07 3163 6000 (prompts 2 and 2) to find out more.
