Special Care Nursery

Mater Mothers’ Private Rockhampton’s Special Care Nursery (SCN) cares for babies born at 32 weeks gestation and over, or are 1500 grams. If a baby requires more intensive treatment, a transfer to our Neonatal Critical Care Unit in Brisbane may be required. This decision will be made in consultation with you and your paediatrician.

Our special care nursery contains six monitor equipped cot bays, plus:

• humidicrib/isolettes
• apnoea monitors
• phototherapy equipment
• resuscitation equipment
• bubble CPAP
• ventilator for stabilisation

Close monitoring of your baby's condition will be performed until their condition stabilises. Our team will regularly check your baby’s temperature, heart and respiratory rate, oxygen saturations, and blood sugar levels.
