Parent Aide Unit

Mater’s Parent Aide Unit is a home visiting service utilising trained volunteers (Parent Aides) who seek to improve infant-parent relationships. The program is coordinated by experienced health professionals and has an early intervention and prevention focus. The Parent Aide Unit is located at Mater Mothers' Hospitals' South Brisbane campus.

Parent Aides help parents who are experiencing difficulty with parenting in general. They will work with you and other carers to promote and enhance positive outcomes for the overall health and wellbeing of the entire family, especialliy for your baby or toddler. Parent Aides support the development of optimum attachment relationships between yourself as parents/carers and your baby, to provide a strong foundation for the future.

Think of Mater's Parent Aides as a family friend. They'll offer information, suggestions, practical help and, importantly, encouragement—either in person or by phone, particularly at times of crisis or distress.

Parent Aides can work with parents or expectant parents/carers from the antenatal period through to when the child is two years old, with priority given to families where children are thought to be ‘at risk’.

Referrals to Mater’s Parent Aide Unit often come from Mater Mothers’ Hospital or Community Child Health Services, although referrals from other agencies and self-referrals are also welcome. Please get in touch with the Parent Aide Unit to find out more about our services and the catchment area.
