Mater Mothers’ Hospitals has opened Queensland’s first, purpose-built 24/7, Pregnancy Assessment Centre (PAC) to care for women from the very beginning of pregnancy through until six weeks after the baby has been born.
The PAC provides around the clock care for any woman who needs help from day one of pregnancy until six weeks after birth.
In Australia, as many as one in four women expecting a baby experience complications early in their pregnancy—from 0 to 20 weeks gestation—including bleeding and other issues.
Currently if a woman is experiencing complications with her pregnancy, especially when her baby is less than 12 weeks gestation, she has to either present at a hospital Emergency Department or schedule a visit to her GP.
PAC is adjacent to Birth Suite and provides 24 hours a day 7 days a week care and assessment for private and publicly-funded women during any stage of pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after the birth of your baby.
The unit, managed by Mater Midwives, arranges care in the same way as hospital emergency departments, by using a triage process to prioritise women according to their individual situation. Women have the ability to access the support of obstetric, medical and allied health professionals as required.
If your maternity care is being provided by a private obstetrician and you attend the Pregnancy Assessment Centre the hospital will contact your obstetrician.
If you are privately funded and have not yet chosen a care provider, you will be able to access a private obstetric specialist 24 hours a day 7 days per week.
You may contact PAC prior to your arrival on 07 3163 7000.
Please note the PAC midwives do not give clinical advice over the phone. For urgent assessment of pregnancy related conditions at any stage of pregnancy please present to PAC 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
